About

What is a Nurdle?  Why have so many recently washed up on the banks of the Mississippi River?  How can I find out more about this environmental issue?  The Pontchartrain Conservancy is hosting a new series called Coastal Conversations.  The first conversation will be at the New Canal Lighthouse and is focused on the recent Nurdles spill on the river.

Please join us for dialogue on this topic.  This FREE series allows individuals impacted by environmental issues, scientists, and community members to share their knowledge and perspectives in a forum-like setting that will rotate to different locations each month.  Coastal Conversations will happen from 6-7pm on the second Wednesday of each month.  During COVID-19 in-person audiences will be limited to 50 registered participants and follow physical-distancing and mask protocols.  Coastal Conversations will be streamed for additional participants and participants who prefer to attend virtually.

Speakers for this event include:

Concerned Community Member: Sharon C. Lavigne, President of RISE St. James!  She will share her perspectives on the recent spill and what it means for the community.

Scientist: Mark Benfield, a professor at Louisiana State University in the College of the Coast and Environment Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences.  He will be shedding light on what they are seeing as they collect data on the recent spill.

Community Voices: YOU.  Come with questions.  Dialogue is the goal!
